Development of cardboard 3D sets

Special thanks and hugs to my friend Stephanie Durán Castillo for taking the pictures and lighting the sets <3 p="">

Development for some sets I made for my grad film. I am very glad I decided to make them 3D and out of cardboard instead of flat on construction paper. I think it works very well and the sets were a lot of fun to work - being in contact with "real" materials proved to be very meditative and relaxing, since I spent most of my time staring at a computer monitor. I'll write another post on lighting, green screens, and compositing in After Effects. It's nothing complicated, really (if you know your way around AE) but it's incredibly fun to share.

Emerald City of Oz

This is part of a group assignment for a concept illustration class I took this semester. The class was pleasant and fun enough, but I wish I'd taken it before, and not during my last semester at school. I didn't dedicate enough time to it! The assignment was to redesign the story of the Wizard of Oz, and my team decided to go for a theme inspired in Islamic art.

We didn't get it right at all, but it was a fun project to work on.

So, these are roughs and a somewhat final rendering of the Emerald City of Oz, inspired by Abassid architecture and Moorish art (which I don't think I got well enough, but dang I tried).

BFFs

I'm not sure about the composition and the angle. Also, I'm obsessed with blues and purples at the moment.

Plate Extensions

So my friend Seth has been doing plate extensions of "Legend of Korra" for fun and practice, and I decided to steal the idea from him and do some as well since I'm trying to get into painting more backgrounds. I do not claim copyright, this was made for fan art and educational purposes only.

Mangoes and volcanoes

I've been feeling homesick lately, so I'm drawing things that remind me of tropical weather. Also, I'm trying to get more into painting environments!
